Day 5: Film Don’t Lie by Coach Castleman (VLC 2024 HC, Patriot Pioneers Lacrosse OC)

Watching your highlights is fun. But if you only watch the goals, assists, hits, etc., you’re not doing everything you can to improve. As you get older, you’ll learn that film study is crucial to team and personal development. Here are some tips regarding film study.

1. Watch how plays develop, don’t just follow the ball. On offense, was the team on the same page? On defense, was everyone in good position on and off ball?

2. What game tendencies (your team’s and the opponent’s) do you notice?

3. Keep a notebook and take good notes any time you watch film. How can you improve your game? What things do you need to remember the next time you play this opponent?

4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or to ask the coach to watch a segment again to clarify things.
